27 - Factors important to cure a disease - how to cure a disease

FActors for curing of Diseases

In this chapter

A disease can be cured if>>
  • the doctor is good,
  • the medicine is pure,
  • the patient is wise
  • and nurse is hard working and caring.

Imbalance:
An imbalance occurs when there is disturbance in Vata, pitta and Kapha in the body.

Their balance is natural. If there is a balance in these three elements than the person enjoys good health.

When there is an imbalance all of them get disturbed and disease occurs. Health is happiness and disease is grief.

A healhty person is happy because there is no pain in the body. An ill person is sad because of bad health.

Chikitsa (Treatment)
If there is a disease, the procedure to be followed to bring things back to balance is treatment.

Qualities of a good doctor:
- Knowledge of the subject.
- experience of treatment
- expert hand and
- purity of the heart and body.

The medicines should:
- be availalble in good quantity.
- should be able to cure the disease.
- The same medicine that could be used for several benefits.
- fresh with juice.
- should be old, used or impure.

Nurse:
- should now basics of medicines
- should understand the patient's condition and help in movement.
- must be helpful to the patient
- maintain cleanliness.

The patient:
- must remember how and when the disease started.
- Must remember the medicines and follow do's and don'ts mentioned by the doctor.
- Should not be afraid of the disease.
- must tell the truth to the doctor. Never hide anything from him.

Qualities of a doctor:
For curing a disease a good doctor, nurse, patient and medicine are most important.

The doctor is most important in all of them. Because he knows about the medicines and arrange it from the farm and manages everything.

The way a cook, vegetables and fire is responsible for good food in the kitchen. The way a good king, army is responsible for winning the war a good doctor, patient, nurse and medicine are important to cure the disease.

Without the potter a pot cannot be made same way a disease cannot get cured without a good doctor.

Sometimes people with small ailments die and get serious ailments because of idiot doctor. The success or failure depends upon doctor.

It is better to suicide than to go to a idiot doctor.

An idiot doctor plans a treatment like the way a blind man walks. He makes trial and errors.

If by any chance the disease is cured because of body's self immunity or because of age this does not mean that it was because of the doctor.

An idiot doctor pride after treating an easy case which got better on its own. But this doctor kills many other people.

That's why a wise man must only consult a wise doctor who has experience and knowledge of the subject.

A wise doctor's approach:

Proper diagnose, root cause, symptoms and treatment and don't let the disease relapse. A doctor who can do treatment in this way is considered the best and is called Raj Vaidya (king of doctors)

Tools, knowledge and water expect the user to be wise. HEnce, a doctor must concentrate on the work properly.

Comment:
There is a popular idiom in India: "don't hand a razor to a monkey" a person who does not know to use the tools properly harms everyone.

Tools are required for proper treatment. Without knowledge proper medicines cannot be given. Without pure water the recovery process may not be fast.

If you give a sword to a mad man he will kill people. But a wise man can use the sword for good and to protect himself.

Similarly if a doctor's intellect is not pure he may cause harm to the patients.

Knowledge (about Ayurveda), decision making, science, experience, activeness and taking action if a doctor has these qualities he will never commit a mistake.

Shastra (knowledge) is like light. Intellect is like eyes and ears. That's why a doctor with proper intellect always takes the best from the shastra.

A wise doctor must, hence, constantly try to improve the above mentioned qualities to get best results and respect in the society.
