Anupaana is term coined for drinks after eating food.

You must drink anupaana which is opposite as per quality of the food you have eaten. For example

Sour after sweet.

But should have different metals in it. For example, don't drink milk after eating sour fruits.

@MadSoul

This is the words of Charaka Samhita which is text book of Ayurveda.

Beer as in alcohol in ancient times is known as Arishta. You must have heard of popular Ayurvedic medicines like Pancharishta, Ashokarishta, Aswagandharishta etc.

According to Ayurveda every element in world can be used as medicine depending on situation. Even the mention of non-veg food pros/cons is there.

Originally vedas never made rules regarding anything. The rules like abstaining from alcohol, sex etc are mostly given by society in later days.
